Beni Hime

Acer Palmatum Group: Dwarf - Red

Beni Hime is one of the smallest red dwarf types. It has star shaped leaves with sharply pointed tips. It is fairly slow growing with limited twigs each year which come out in an angular form and give the plant a compact bush shape. The new leaves are a pale pink to rusty red colour. The intensity of the colour is intensified by the sun. In the summer a greenish hue colvers the plant

and in the autumn this turns to a vibrant red. Unlike many acer it does well in full sunlight

and can weaken in a too shady spot. It can also be prone to fungi, hence the open

and light preference.
